little oak desk project
Bought this used desk thinking I’d apply a quick all over coat of paint.
There was too many old paint lines to paint over so I thought I’d give it a bit of a sand. The top 2 layers just gummed up the sander.
Decided to break out the stripper (Circa 1850) and found not only 3 layers of old paint but 6 layers!
It’s taking ages but I’m finding this sooooo satisfying!
This is taking forever but the colours really tell a story about this little oak desk.
Ok, so at this point I’m getting impatient and the satisfaction is feeling thin.
Just about ready for sanding. Started with a medium grit then upwards to a medium/fine grit. Again, tedium!
Finally I can start dipping my paintbrush and get some colour on this piece. Love the brightness of Renfrew Blue.
And complete! I kept the top and interior shelves unpainted and stained them with two coats of Cappuccino SFO (Stain & Finishing Oil)
I can’t believe that this was underneath 6 layers of paint. I can’t believe I had the patience to remove 6 layers of paint!
Replaced the drawer hardware and found some pretty wall paper ends around the shop for that dash of the unexpected.
